Remodeling or renovating your bathroom is always an exciting time so it is easy to get distracted. You’re so busy thinking about new color palettes, tile patterns, sizes, handle trim, and fixtures that you might miss out on perhaps the best addition to your bathroom a renovation can bring: a shower niche.

Installing a shower niche means that you’ll never have to hear the booming noise of a precariously placed, bulk-sized shampoo bottle fall from the ledge of your tub ever again. It means no more collections of bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or soap in the corner of your shower or tub. You’re ready to move up in the world and longer care to crouch or bend over to reach your toiletries. But, most importantly, it means you can kiss that shower caddy goodbye. Because let’s face it, a shower caddy is a temporary solution to a permanent problem, a “bathroom band-aid” if you will.

Much better! An elegant solution to storage, while not breaking the beautiful field of glass subway tile.

Shower niches can come in various sizes from your typical 14-inch square to niches that transform into ledges as they run the length of a given wall of the shower. They are a beautiful addition to your shower and, when done correctly, the niche won’t break up the layout/field of gorgeous tile you have chosen.

Here is a great example of a longer niche like I mentioned earlier.

No matter the size of your shower, a niche (or ledge) is the best longer term solution for shower and bath storage. The design options are only limited by your imagination. From river stone mosaics, accent tile, or using the same tile throughout, shower niches are here to stay.
